Volunteer With the Ontario Association of Home Inspectors
Since OAHI is a not-for-profit association, it relies heavily on volunteers and minimal staff.
OAHI’s board of directors is volunteer-based and under its bylaws, must have a minimum number of directors to function. This is a working board.
Furthermore, for business to be conducted, quorum must be reached. Without quorum at board meetings and the AGM, decisions, including approvals cannot be made and may be deferred.
Potential board members be OAHI members in good standing before joining the board. You should also have a basic understanding of Bill Pr158 An Act respecting the Ontario Association of Home Inspectors.
Your service involves more than attending meetings (which you must arrive at prepared in advance for). Board meetings are usually on a weekday evening and held via Zoom.
As a board member, you may be asked to consult with stakeholders (colleges, the provincial government, non-government agencies such as Tarion, HCRA), write/review documents, mentor new members, engage positively on social media to help promote OAHI, have meetings outside of the BOD meetings, do committee work, consider RFPs, lead online workshops, contribute to the newsletter, and respond to media requests.
Volunteers are also required for various committees including the Education Program Committee, which organized the Winter Workshop, and the Admissions Review Committee / Board of Examiners. These are working committees with online meetings and expectations.
You must be an OAHI member in good standing before joining the committee.
To be considered for a board or committee role, 1. Make sure your membership and E&O insurance are up-to-date; 2. Seriously consider the time commitment and review your personal/business calendar; 3. Consult with the committee chair or a board member; 4. Familiarize yourself of Robert’s Rules of Order.
Still interested? Email oahi@oahi.com to express your interest and indicate which committee interests you.
If you are pursuing a board position, please include a recent headshot (no selfies).
Details about the OAHI AGM will be issued soon.
